ABOUT Massachusetts Workforce Development GRANT Funding

EXPRESS GRANTS FOR SMALL TO MID-SIZED BUSINESSES IN MA

Companies with 100 or fewer full-time W2 Massachusetts-based employees may be eligible for full or partial reimbursement for Leadership Development Courses. 

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Companies with up to 50 MA based W2 employees are eligible for 100% reimbursement
  • Companies with 51-100 MA based W2 employees are eligible for 50% reimbursement
  • Up to $15,000 per company per calendar year
  • Up to $3,000 per employee per course
  • Note: Non-profits are eligible as long as the employees are W2 payroll employees and they contribute to the workforce training fund via Unemployment Insurance (UI) payments; Nonprofits that use the discounted "reimbursable method" for UI are not eligible for Express Grants.

Application Process

  • Obtain a Certificate of Good Standing (COGS) from the MA Department of Revenue (DOR). Must be no more than 6 months old. Apply here. 
  • Obtain a Certificate of Compliance from the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) that is no more than 1 month old. Apply here.
  • Apply for the grant here. (Note: The Express Grant Process is very streamlined)
  • You will need to enter the course number (provided below). 
  • You will need to enter estimated start and end dates - notes: Start date must be at least 21 days after application date. The grant is valide for up to one year, so we can move the dates if needed.
  • All paperwork at least 3 weeks in advance of training

Reimbursement Process

After the course is complete and paid for, you must apply for reimbursement within 30 days of completion. The details on the reimbursement process are here.

You will need: 

  • Reimbursement Form that will be sent to you as part of your course approval. More information can be found here.
  • List of Trainees - who attended and completed the course.
  • Proof of Payment - various documentation can be used: copy of bank statement, copy of cancelled check, copy of credit card statement/credit card activity (screenshots accepted), or copy of QuickBooks statement.
