I often joke that my first job out of college was the toughest marketing job I've ever had: High school Math and Physics teacher. If you want to find a tough audience and try to sell them something they aren’t sure they want, teaching physics to high schoolers might be a good place to start.
From that early experience, I built a career around understanding people. The ability to put myself in "other people's shoes" has given me the perspective to develop and coach strong middle management leaders.
My career over the past decade has included roles as Vice President of Strategy & Business Intelligence and Vice President of Marketing at the restaurant company Cracker Barrel as well as Vice President of Marketing at grocery retailer Ahold. Prior to those roles, I held various marketing roles at The Hershey Company and Nabisco.
I am currently Principal Consultant for Proprioceptive LLC, a consultancy focused on turning strategy into action by developing middle management excellence.
My book, The Middle Matters: A Toolkit for Middle Managers, focused on helping mid-level leaders become great in their roles, is due to launch in June of 2024.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry & Physics from Harvard University, a Master’s in Spanish from Middlebury College, and an MBA from the University of Rochester.
I live just outside of Boston, Massachusetts with my wife, two kids, and a small menagerie of pets.
